Blueberry bush | Information & Care

Blueberries: who doesn't like them? Super healthy and very tasty! They occur naturally in wooded areas {hence the name American Bilberry } and its family of heather plants.

The biological Vaccinium Corymbosum, or is a hardy shrub that can grow up to 2 meters high in the open ground. It blooms in May with clusters of white/pink flowers followed by blue berries from late June to mid-September.

A blueberry bush does well in acidic, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Before you plant the berry bush, you will therefore first have to prepare the soil for it by, for example, adding leaf soil, pine needles from the forest and loose humus to the soil. The shrub roots only superficially, so that the roots cannot reach the groundwater. The shrub therefore needs regular water, the soil should not become too dry.

The Blueberry is suitable for planting in pots as you can then use exactly the soil that the shrub needs. Place the pot in a sheltered spot in partial shade and water regularly.

Small fruit is grown differently than, for example, fruit from trees such as apples and cherries. The shrubs and plants remain smaller and can be guided well along a wall or fence, such as the kiwi. Berry bushes are somewhat woodier and do not need support. All fruit plants need heat from the sun for the fruit to ripen properly. A spot in partial shade is possible, but preferably with full morning or afternoon sun. Keep in mind that small fruit plants or shrubs can grow up to 2 meters high.

WATERING | A berry bush needs regular water. Give enough water, otherwise the plant will wither and the berries will remain small.

SEASONAL PLANTS | Organic shrubs are grown in the open air and not, like many regular ones, in greenhouses. They grow and bloom as nature intended.
